Dyeing highlighted hair?

i am trying to grow out my blonde highlights. I am trying to match to my root colour which is light brown and have tried dying hair with semi perms in dark blonde and light brown. But each time i use them i keep getting horrible red/brassy tones. Is it just that i am not using a dark enough colour or what?

I have bought a medium brown but am not sure in using it as it is taking longer and longer for the colour to wash out of my hair. Any ideas?

p.s i know ideally i should go to a hair dresser but cant afford it.

Dyeing highlighted hair?

if you have blonde highlights/hair allwasy go over them witha color that has a red tint.

its good that it came out like that because if i didnt have the red tint i would have stayed brown for a bit and fade to a swampy brown with a green tint and if your unlucky it would eventully turn green in some parts. [ the red cancells out the green ]

if i was you id dye over your red brown hair with the medium brown you bought. but look at the color it would turn on your hair color atm or if not

your probs best off using a ash brown which is a much cooler shade of brown.

Dyeing highlighted hair?

Same problem but I dyed mine Platinum blond, from brown...

Now when I dye it I get the same problem... I just found a color that didn't look brassy closet to my natural.. It's still blond, but it's not as bad to bare with.

Dyeing highlighted hair?

make it a very light brown and stop doing for the blonde.

Dyeing highlighted hair?

i have been dying my hair for sometime now and was long ago told to use a ashy colour for dark brown hair....i used light ash brown. on my mousy hair.GOOD LUCK.

Dyeing highlighted hair?

Its because home kits aren't strong enough to dye over a completely different colour...

if you keep trying to dye over it your hair will become very weak %26amp; even straw-like (that is what happened to a friend of mine)..

and the highlights will eventually turn a nasty shade of ginger...

your best to figure out how long it will take you to save up enough money to pay a professional to dye over it...

I know you can't afford it but saving up to get it done professionally will save your hair from damage that is caused by using too many home kits......

I'm sorry but you'll have to live with it until that day at the salon....

a month before you can afford it go %26amp; get the dye tested behind your ear (the allergy test) so when you can afford it you are ready to get it done...
