There's a girl at my college who has thick curly hair and she back combs it into an afro type do, leaves her fringe straight and puts a bandana or thick hairband/alice band around it.

I'd say accessories is your best bet.

Maybe a little black bow in your hair, I know some people really hate those but if you don't.

Or similar large clips like that.

Or wear a beanie.

Just keep the rest of your outfit scene and it'll even out your hair.

If its dark then it shouldn't be a big problem anyway.

Applying mouse (sp?) looks pretty nice.

You could always chemically relax it, though I don't reccomend it because odds are you will have to take a lot of inches off of the length of your hair.

Maybe try picking it to look like an afro if you are brave enough =P

For scene hair, make sure you have a side fringe, and have the bottom layer of your hair really long - longer than other lays. If you're getting it done at a salon you can find a picture from www.photobucket.com and search 'scene hair' and find a picture that you like and print it and show your hair stylist and they will get it done for you.

Scene hair consist of chompy layers.

You also need hair products like hair spray etc... and need to know how to tease your hair!
