im in the army and obv have short hair, but my hair sticks up quite badly on the right side of my head, mainly because of how my beret sits, and from how i sleep, a few hairdressers ive tryed have had a go at trying to sort it, but no joy, i cant use gel because of my beret and to be honest i hate having sticky **** in my hair ^^ any ideas?

See the sides of your hair get them shorter than the hair on the top of your head and then you shouldent have a problem. but im not very sure on how the hair is supposed to be in the army i no it has to be short but other than that i dont really know. hope i helped.

Sounds like you have a hair growth pattern that just wont behave unless:
1. it has some length and gel on it to weigh it down
or
2. Cut it super short.
Since the army tends to frown on long hair and you dont like gels then just shave it down! Nothing wrong with a high and tight!
